Hi, it’s nice to meet you!
I truly believe that physical fitness is the first step to a fulfilling motherhood.
My passion for using food and fitness began in middle school. I wanted to look thin and attractive like the popular girls. As a chubby teenager, I became unhappy with my physique and decided to prioritize my body.
I started analyzing the food I ate, learning about macros, and creating a diet plan to lose weight. I was always physically active but decided to add running to my routine. Within a few months, my diet and exercise plan helped me achieve the body of my dreams.
However, I took things too far and developed disordered eating habits and an intense fear of food and missing workouts. I became too thin and lost my period for 9 months. My doctors put me on birth control, and I got my period back. I had a period for the entire 14 years I was on birth control…or so I thought.
But then, I learned about the negative effects of birth control for the first time in 14 years, and it scared me enough to stop cold turkey. 6 months passed. 1 year passed. 2 years passed. And I still didn’t get my period back.
Not only was I missing my period, but I also had anxiety and depression for the first time in my life. I didn’t feel like myself at all. I went from doctor to doctor hoping to find a solution to my missing period, but they all told me to go back on birth control. It didn’t make sense to me.
This is when I decided to take matters into my own hands. I became the scientist and doctor. Over the next year, I read dozens of books, listened to countless podcasts, and read hundreds of blog posts and papers. I learned how to truly nourish and nurture my body so that it can heal from the inside out. It was a difficult journey, and I was mentally and physically exhausted, but I held onto hope that if I just kept going, eventually my body would heal.
Exactly 3 years after I quit birth control, I got my period back, and it has been regular ever since. While the journey was rough, I know that God put me through that pain because on the other end of the pain was knowledge, freedom, and wisdom. I have a much better understanding of how to stay fit without harming my fertility. Food and fitness are now the most powerful tools in my tool belt to boost my fertility and have enough energy to enjoy motherhood to its fullest!
